Calgary has been named the third most livable city in the world, tying with Zurich, Switzerland, in the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) annual ranking.
The EIU’s ranking is based on multiple factors, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure. Calgary scored 95 in stability, 100 in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, and 90 in culture and environment - scoring 96.3 overall, along with Zurich.
Out of the world's top livable places, three Canadian cities made the top 10, with Calgary being the highest at third place, Vancouver following in fifth place, and Toronto being eighth.
It's not a surprise that Calgary placed so high, as it has been in the top 10 before; however, this is the highest Calgary has ever scored in the rankings.
"Our climb in the rankings for Most Livable City reflects the welcoming nature of our city, its affordability, and the opportunity offered to entrepreneurs,” said Mayor Jyoti Gondek in a CBC article.
